How do I cite sources using APA, MLA, ASA, or Chicago format?

The short answer is that each citation style is used by different academic disciplines. At Whittier College, the citations styles used by each discipline are generally these:

APA - Psychology, Education, Social Work

MLA - Literature, Philosophy, History, Religion

ASA - Sociology

Chicago - Business, History, Fine Arts, Anthropology

However, if you're not sure, ask your professor which style they prefer. See the Citation Styles Guide at the Circulation Desk or a librarian for more information and resources, or review the online Citation Help Guide.
